A brief analysis of the Engineering Job Market in India

A recent survey indicated that Indian Engineering Colleges produces 1.5 million engineers annually. This number is actually more than the number of engineers that pass out every year in USA and China combined together. As we are well aware of that courses in engineering are professional ones, therefore the immediate question that arises is that how many actually manage to secure a job post college. If we tread a bit further, then the next thing that comes to mind is about the progress of the existing engineers currently working in their respective professions. Sadly the answer to both these questions is very depressing. All of these engineers run the risk of getting no job at all or would be in an under-paid job.

This depressing scenario came into picture post the massive recession in 2008.Still the job market has not recovered fully in India as well as worldwide. Both the sectors of fresh out-of-college and existing stack of engineers face a bleak future. However, it must be remembered that there is always a ray o hope no matter how dark the situation is. In this case the ray of hope is the job-portals and the agencies which aid in placement if the engineers both fresher’s and laterals. They not only aid in placements but also help in uplifting one’s career graph.

The ways of these placement agencies functions is quite unique and efficient. The main participant in this flawless function is their impeccable contacts. They have these huge network o contacts from both the job-seekers as well as that of the employer’s end. They maintain this huge database of both the parties’ details and provide the best possible permutation and combination so as to serve both the major sections that constitute the job-market.

Now in order to be at par with the emerging trends these portals also need to provide some extra services in order to attract clients. They might range from providing professional counselling or arranging events to promote either employing organizations or job-seekers. Sometimes they even engage follow-ups with the candidates in case they fail to score in an interview and strive towards getting them placed properly.

These job-sites target not only the existing employable candidates but also the potential ones. In order to execute their plan they often arrange for job-fairs in the engineering colleges thus bringing the employers and students on a common platform so that each can gauze the others’ expectations on being placed with a job. It is a very common site that most of the existing engineers are underpaid. In order to avert the situation these sites also arrange for technical workshops where these poor underpaid souls can be trained in the latest tools and technologies thus helping them forward to what they deserve. Indian engineers are well recognized and need for jobs abroad. These sites often tie-up with many international clients which helps the deserving candidates to get an overseas job with lucrative remunerations. The Incircle portals thus help in curbing the unemployment issues in the country to a great deal.
